How do I check an AQA boundary?

Open AQA's official table rather than a screenshot or predicted boundary. Find the qualification and specification code used by your school. Tiered subjects have different maximum marks and boundaries, so foundation and higher results must not be mixed. Compare the qualification-level total with the relevant grade column. If your slip does not show a raw mark, ask your teacher or exams officer for the mark and its meaning.

What is an AQA notional paper boundary?

AQA publishes notional component boundaries to help schools and students understand performance on individual papers. They are illustrative: linear GCSEs receive one overall subject grade, not a separate official grade for each paper.

What if my AQA mark looks wrong?

Speak to your school or college. It can consider access to scripts and the appropriate post-results service. A review checks whether the mark scheme was applied correctly, and the mark can fall, stay the same or rise.

Are GCSE grade boundaries the same every year?

No. Boundaries can move because papers differ in difficulty. They are set after marking so that the standard represented by each grade is maintained from year to year.

Are grade boundaries the same for AQA, Edexcel and OCR?

No. Each exam board sets boundaries for its own specification and papers. Always use the board, subject, specification code and tier shown on your results information.

Does being one mark below a boundary mean my mark is wrong?

No. A boundary is a cut-off, so somebody will always be close to it. A review is for checking whether marking rules were applied correctly, not for adding a discretionary mark because you were close.
