What is the best GCSE revision platform?

For most GCSE students the best revision platform in 2026 is Save My Exams, because it pairs board-specific notes with exam questions across the most subjects and exam boards. Physics & Maths Tutor is the best completely free library for past papers, and Seneca is the best free tool for daily recall. Cognito, Revise Right, Medly and BBC Bitesize follow, each with a narrower job it does well. The order changes with your subjects: a student taking only sciences and maths should weigh coverage less and feedback more.

How we ranked them

Five criteria, with exam-board and subject coverage weighted most and the other four used to break ties.

• Exam-board and subject coverage: Does it cover your board and tier, and how many of your subjects? This carries the most weight, because a platform that misses half your timetable cannot be your main one.
• Notes and explanations: Are the explanations written for a named specification, and does the provider say who writes them?
• Practice and past papers: Can you move from a topic to exam-style questions, past papers and mark schemes without leaving?
• Feedback when you are stuck: When an answer is wrong, does anything tell you why and what to do next?
• Price and free access: What can you use without paying, and is the paid price published?

1. Save My Exams

Best for: Board-specific written notes and exam questions across almost every GCSE subject. The widest match between written notes and exam questions of any platform we checked. Its GCSE page lists AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, WJEC Eduqas and CCEA across more than 25 subjects, and it says its content is written by teachers and examiners. The catch is that answers to exam questions and past papers sit behind a membership whose price we could not see without starting to join.

• Notes and explanations: Revision notes by specification. Save My Exams says content is “created from scratch, by our hardworking team of teachers and examiners”.
• Practice and past papers: Exam questions, past papers, flashcards, mock exams and target tests are all listed.
• Feedback when you are stuck: A “Smart Mark” tool is listed among its study tools. We did not test it.
• Price and free access: “A lot” of resources are free. Membership adds answers to all exam questions and past papers, PDF downloads and solution videos. Exact UK price: not publicly verified.
• Limitation: The membership price was not visible on the pages we checked.
• Limitation: Its own FAQ says the free trial moves to a charged annual subscription if you do not cancel in time, so read the terms first.

2. Physics & Maths Tutor

Best for: Free past papers, mark schemes and questions by topic, with no account. The strongest free library for exam practice. PMT says all of its revision resources are free to access, download and print, and that it covers AQA, OCR, Edexcel, Eduqas, WJEC and CAIE. It is a library rather than a course: nothing marks your work or tells you what to do next, so it suits students who can already organise themselves.

• Exam-board and subject coverage: AQA, OCR, Edexcel, Eduqas, WJEC and CAIE. Subjects: maths, English, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, economics, psychology and computer science.
• Notes and explanations: Revision notes, flashcards, mind maps, glossaries and formula sheets.
• Practice and past papers: Past papers, mark schemes, questions by topic, video walkthroughs and examiner reports.
• Feedback when you are stuck: None built in. You mark your own work against the mark scheme.
• Price and free access: £0. PMT states that all revision resources are “completely free to access”. Tuition and revision courses are separate paid services.
• Limitation: Nine subjects, so no history, languages, business or religious studies.
• Limitation: No progress tracking or feedback. You plan and mark everything yourself.

3. Seneca

Best for: Free daily recall practice across nearly every subject you take. The best free option for short, regular quizzing. Seneca says it can be used “for free an unlimited amount” and that it has more than 600 free exam-board-specific courses. Courses are interactive question sequences rather than written notes, and the tools that deal with mistakes (Wrong Answer Mode, AI-marked exam questions, the Amelia assistant) are Premium.

• Exam-board and subject coverage: Seneca says its courses cover “95% of the exams taken in the UK”, from primary to A Level.
• Notes and explanations: Short interactive courses in place of written notes.
• Practice and past papers: Quiz-style questions are free. AI-marked exam questions and predicted papers are listed as Premium.
• Feedback when you are stuck: Wrong Answer Mode, Smart Learning Mode and the Amelia AI assistant are Premium features.
• Price and free access: Free with no time limit. Premium prices are shown only after you log in: not publicly verified.

4. Cognito

Best for: Short video explanations followed by quiz questions, especially in science and maths. The pick if you understand a topic faster from a five-minute video than from a page of text. Cognito's home page lists 15 subjects across 10 UK and international exam boards, with video lessons, revision notes, quiz questions, flashcards and exam-style questions with AI marking. It is free to start. A Pro subscription exists, but the checked pages did not say what it costs or exactly what it unlocks.

5. Revise Right

Best for: Science and maths students who want board-and-tier notes, recall tools and AI help in one place. This is our own platform, so read this entry as the publisher's view. Revise Right's notes are split by board and tier and are free to read without an account. The paid plan adds flashcards, quizzes, mind maps and Alexis, an AI study assistant, at a published £14.99 a month. We rank it fifth overall because it covers far fewer subjects than the platforms above, and coverage is the criterion we weight most. If you only take the subjects below, it would sit higher on your own list.

• Exam-board and subject coverage: Notes for biology, chemistry, physics, combined science, maths, further maths, business, economics and geography. AQA, Edexcel and OCR for the sciences; AQA and Edexcel for maths. Past-paper pages span 20 GCSE subjects.

• Practice and past papers: Past-paper pages by board and subject, plus flashcards and quizzes attached to lessons.
• Feedback when you are stuck: Alexis AI study support inside the signed-in product. Treat AI answers as help to check, not as a mark scheme.

6. Medly

Best for: AI marking of written and handwritten exam answers. The most marking-focused platform here. Medly describes marking typed or handwritten answers against specification points, and says it covers GCSE, A Level, IGCSE, IB, AP and SAT across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and CIE. You can study free each day without a card. It ranks below Revise Right only on price: the paid plan is the most expensive we could verify, at £24.99 a month or £180 a year. If marking is the thing you need most, swap the two.

• Exam-board and subject coverage: GCSE, A Level, IGCSE, IB, AP and SAT across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and CIE. Subjects named: maths, the sciences, English literature and language “and more”.
• Notes and explanations: Learning content sits alongside practice. We did not assess its depth.

7. BBC Bitesize

Best for: A free, plain-English first pass at a topic in any subject. The easiest place to start a topic you do not understand yet. The GCSE section lists more than 30 subjects, asks for no payment, and lets you pick your exam board; GCSE Biology offers AQA, OCR 21st Century, OCR Gateway, CCEA, Edexcel and WJEC. It ranks last here because the checked pages describe guides and videos, not past papers or feedback, and those are what move grades in the final months.

Coverage carries the most weight; the other four break ties. Every statement about another provider was read on that provider's own public pages on 17 September 2026. Where a page did not show a fact, such as a price, we say “not publicly verified” instead of using a third-party figure. We did not sit behind each paywall or test every subject, and we give no scores, star ratings, review counts or user numbers.
