A-Level Results Day 2026: UCAS, Clearing & Next Steps

A-level results day in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is Thursday 13 August 2026. Check your school or college's collection arrangements. UCAS says applicants can access their applications from 08:00 UK time.

UCAS says the application service is available from 08:00 on 13 August 2026 and starts updating applicant records from then. Eligible applicants can add a Clearing choice from 13:00. Your school or college controls when and how you receive your actual grades.

Check your UCAS status before assuming you have lost the place: a university may still accept you or be waiting for information. If no decision is showing, contact the university calmly with your UCAS ID and results. Also check your insurance choice and research Clearing vacancies so you have options.

Yes. A university can still confirm your place even if you narrowly miss the published conditions, but it decides case by case and is not required to accept you. Check UCAS before assuming the place is lost. If the decision is still pending, call the admissions team with your UCAS ID and complete results.

If your firm choice does not confirm you and you meet the conditions of your insurance offer, your insurance can become your confirmed place. Read the decisions shown in UCAS rather than relying only on your grades. If either decision is pending, contact the relevant university before taking an irreversible action.

Ask your school or college about a clerical re-check or review of marking; students do not normally apply directly to the exam board. A review checks whether marking rules were applied correctly and the mark can go down, stay the same or go up. If a university place depends on it, ask immediately about the priority service.

Being one mark below a boundary can make a review worth discussing, but it does not guarantee an increase. Ask your school or college to examine the component marks and, where useful, the script before advising you. The mark can fall, stay the same or rise, so consider the risk, fee, deadline and whether the higher grade changes an actual outcome.

It may, but this is the university's decision and is not automatic. Contact admissions immediately, say that your centre is considering a priority review, and ask what evidence and deadline the university requires. Also protect a realistic alternative because a review request does not guarantee either a higher mark or a held place.

Yes. Your reviewed mark can decrease, remain unchanged or increase, and the final subject grade can change with it. Your school or college must obtain your written consent before submitting a review. Ask them to explain the evidence, likely benefit and consequences before you agree.

For the June 2026 series, JCQ says awarding bodies must receive GCE A-level Priority Service 2 requests by 20 August 2026. Your school or college needs time to discuss the request, obtain your written consent and submit it, so contact them as soon as possible.

Yes, resitting may be an option. Ask your school, college or another exam centre which subjects and components you would need to enter, what teaching support is available, and when entries close. Compare a resit year with Clearing, alternative courses, apprenticeships and work before deciding.

You can keep your confirmed place. If you want to consider another course, research it and speak to the new provider first. Do not decline a confirmed place until you understand the consequences and have a realistic alternative; releasing yourself into Clearing means giving up that place.

Yes, if your university, course, tuition fee or living location changes. Your student finance application is not automatically updated from UCAS. Sign in to your student finance account and report the new details as soon as your plan is confirmed so your assessment and payments use the correct information.

Ask the university about availability, deadlines, deposits, contract length and alternatives before committing. A course offer does not automatically guarantee university accommodation. Compare the realistic housing cost and travel plan alongside the course, and never transfer money without checking that the request is genuine.

You can ask, but the university decides whether it will allow a deferral and may ask you to reapply. Contact the admissions team before declining or changing anything in UCAS. Explain why you want to defer and ask what happens to your current offer, accommodation and any conditions.

You do not have to make a rushed university choice. Compare apprenticeships, employment, further study, a structured gap year and a later application. Before declining a confirmed place, check the consequences for accommodation, student finance and any deposits, then make a written plan for the next few months.

Help the student slow the decision down, record names and offers, compare course details, and prepare questions. The student should lead calls. If they want a parent or carer to speak to UCAS or universities, they should arrange nominated access in advance where possible.
